Canned cinnamon rolls are already good on their own, but cut into pieces, soaked in a custard and baked into a casserole, they turn into something that looks — and tastes — like it took a lot more effort than it actually did.

Why This Recipe Works

Cutting the rolls into quarters instead of leaving them whole is the detail that makes this work. Whole rolls only let the custard soak into the outside, leaving the center dry and doughy. Quartered pieces let the custard reach every layer, so the whole dish comes out evenly soft and custardy, not just the top.

What Goes Into It

Two cans of refrigerated cinnamon rolls, a simple egg-and-cream custard, and the reserved icing warmed and drizzled on at the end. No dough to make, no rising time — just cutting, pouring and baking.
