Few things in the kitchen smell as good as garlic bread baking in the oven. Golden, crispy, loaded with garlic butter and fresh parsley — this homemade garlic bread is the perfect side dish for pasta, soups, salads or simply on its own.

The Secret to Perfect Garlic Bread

The most common mistake is using melted butter instead of softened butter. Melted butter soaks straight into the bread and makes it soggy rather than crispy. Softened butter stays on the surface and creates that irresistible golden crust. Always use fresh garlic — garlic powder is a fine substitute but fresh cloves give a far more aromatic, punchy flavour.

Crispy or Soft — Which Style Is Better?

It depends entirely on preference. For a crispier result, finish under the broiler for 2-3 minutes at the end of baking — but watch it closely as it can burn in seconds. For a softer, more pull-apart style, wrap the buttered bread loosely in foil before baking and unwrap for the last 5 minutes.
